New MACRA in Effect Since 2020

Effective January 1, 2020, the new MACRA law (Medicare Access and CHIP Reauthorization Act of 2015” made some changes to Medicare supplement plans. The annual Part B deductible will no longer be covered for newly eligible Medicare beneficiaries. As a result, Plans F and C will no longer be offered to NEW Medicare beneficiaries (specifically, those who are eligible for Medicare AFTER January 1, 2020.) If you became eligible for Medicare prior to January 1, 2020, you will be able to keep those plans and will still be able to purchase those plans after January 1, 2020, as long as the plans are available.

Beginning January 1, 2020, Plan G will also offer a “High Deductible Plan G” for new Medicare beneficiaries. The deductible for all services (including Part A and Part B) will be $2,370/year. Once the deductible is met, you will still be responsible for the Part B deductible of $203. Once the high deductible AND Part B deductible are paid, all Medicare-approved services/costs are covered.
